Patients of Cotteswold House Dental Care will no doubt recognise Jess from their visits to the practice in Gloucester. You will also see what a beautiful radiant smile she now has after undertaking teeth straightening, or orthodontic treatment using the Six Month Smiles teeth straightening system. Jess has kindly agreed to share with us her story and her beautiful wedding photos. We hope you enjoy her story just as much as we did!
Why did you want your teeth straightening Jess?
“I had always been conscious of my teeth, especially working in a dental practice. I’d “put up” with my narrow, crooked smile for such a long time but it wasn’t until my, now Husband, popped the question on Christmas Eve in 2012. I really didn’t want to look back through my Wedding album and regret not having them straightened. It still took me a further few months to pluck up the courage and ask for treatment as I was so nervous that it might be painful. Turns out I was very wrong!”
Why did you chose 6MS Jess?
“Obviously working in a dental practice was a big advantage for me as it meant I didn’t need to travel out of Gloucester to have my teeth straightened. We had been treating patients with the six month smiles (6MS) system for a few months and it all seemed pretty straight forward, however I still felt I didn’t know too much about the treatment. My main worry (aside from it hurting) was how long it would take as my Wedding day was slowly creeping closer. Stephen Waters reassured all would be done by September which was great news for me. I booked myself in and got started.”
How did it impact on your everyday life Jess?
“At first I felt they were really noticeable as my lips seemed to feel more puffed out and I spoke a bit funny. Eating wasn’t easy but it didn’t take me long to get used to things. Many people knew that there was something different about me but couldn’t put their finger on it. It wasn’t until I’d pull a cheesy grin to show off the braces. I became quite proud of them in the end and often smiled for photos with my teeth and braces showing… something I’d not done before! I even had to have a tooth extracted during my treatment, but was still happy to show off the little gap!”
“During my treatment, the dentists would often use me as a visual aid to show patients how the braces looked and how I felt the treatment was going personally. It was during this time that I felt we really needed something more for our patients. I was asked so many questions and it felt patients were more inclined to ask me things over the dentists, which was a nice feeling. I felt sometimes I really made a difference and helped them make a decision on whether to go for the 6MS treatment or not. The fact that I was going through it/had been through it meant I could really be honest with the patients.”
How does Jess feel now?
“I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of my treatment. Not only has it given me the confidence to smile (and wonderful Wedding photos!) but it has given me a new role at Cotteswold House.”
“I have recently taken on the role of Patient Coordinator. This is a position that allows me to speak daily to our patients about treatments we offer; cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, dental implants, and also more day to day dentistry such as fillings, extractions and crowns. I also welcome all of our new patients to the practice and I’m always on hand to chat at any point if a patient needs to. It was only by having treatment myself that I was able to put myself in patient’s shoes.”
Jess was a slightly more complex case than usual for Six Month Smiles, hence taking a little longer at 11 months. Most cases tend to take between five and nine months.
“You only have to look at Jessica’s beautiful wedding photos to see what a difference the Six Month Smiles teeth straightening system has made to her smile” said Stephen.
