Tooth Fillings

Restore your tooth that has been damaged by tooth decay or an accident

Here at Cotteswold House Dental Care, we offer natural-looking tooth fillings that help you repair your tooth or replace your old metal filling to improve the aesthetics of your smile.

We offer traditional fillings as well as composite fillings that match the colour of your existing teeth or stronger tooth-coloured ceramic onlays and inlays which are hand-crafted to fit precisely in the cavity.

What are tooth fillings?

A tooth filling is used to treat tooth decay and restore the tooth to its normal shape and function. Here at Cotteswold House Dental Care, we insert either traditional grey amalgam fillings, composite fillings or ceramic onlays and inlays into your tooth to close off the affected area and prevent further decay.

What happens when you get a filling?

When you get a filling, your dentist will first give you local anaesthesia to numb the area.

Then we will remove the decayed material from your tooth using a drill, prepare the space, then use the filling of your choice.

To ensure it doesn’t interfere with the way you bite or chew and looks good, we will shape the filling according to your needs.

Do fillings hurt?
Because we use local anaesthetic, it won’t hurt when you receive your dental filling. After treatment, the area can feel tender and your tooth may be more sensitive than usual. This usually lasts for just a day or two.
Will my fillings be visible?
Whether or not your fillings are visible to others depends on the materials you choose. Traditional grey amalgam fillings are visible, whereas our natural-coloured ceramic or porcelain fillings blend with your natural teeth.
Should I replace my traditional grey fillings?
Whilst traditional fillings are cost-effective, they can become cracked or worn down. If this happens, you should get them replaced by a longer-lasting composite filling that looks more natural and helps your smile shine.
How long does it take to get a filling?
There are many factors that affect how long it will take to have a filling. This includes how many fillings you need, the size of the cavity and where it is in your mouth. You should allow up to one hour for your appointment.
