Dental Crowns

Enjoy a natural recreation of your tooth and repair damage with our beautiful porcelain dental crowns

Whether you have damaged or weakened teeth that can’t be fixed with a filling or want a cosmetic improvement, dental crowns will provide the ideal solution.

Find out about our expertly crafted porcelain dental crowns at Cotteswold House Dental Care, Gloucester.

What are dental crowns?

A dental crown is a ‘cap’ that is placed over the top of a severely damaged tooth in order to replace and protect it. Our crowns are made from natural-looking porcelain material that will maintain the beauty of your smile.

Crowns can be used to:

  • Protect badly fractured or decayed teeth
  • Permanently restore teeth that have large fillings
  • Fix severe discolouration
  • Correct irregular shaped teeth or spacing issues

Our dental crown procedure

Our custom-made, porcelain dental crowns can be fitted in just two sessions.

During the first, your dentist will prepare your existing tooth for the crown to be fitted. They will then place a temporary crown over your tooth, matching the colour to your surrounding teeth.

When you return for your next appointment, your permanent, natural-looking dental crown will be fixed in place alongside the rest of your teeth.

What happens after you have a crown fitted?
You may experience some discomfort for a day or so after having your new porcelain crown fitted. This can include gum soreness or sensitivity.
How do you look after a crown?
Dental crowns are durable but need to be taken care of, just like the rest of your teeth. Maintain a regular brushing and flossing routine, avoid hard, chewy or sticky foods and visit your dentist regularly.
How long does a porcelain dental crown last on a tooth?
A porcelain dental crown can be expected to last for between 5- 15 years if taken care of properly.
Is the treatment painful?
Not at all. When your tooth is prepared for a crown, your friendly dentist will use a local anaesthetic to ensure that the treatment is pain-free. This may not be required if the tooth doesn’t have a nerve.
