Cold Sore Policy

A Cold sore is a very common virus and is carried by up to 80% of the population. It is caused by a virus called Herpes Simplex (HSV). Cold sores are highly infectious and has the capability of spreading to other parts of the body.

The virus lies dormant in the nerves that supply feeling to the face and mouth.

Herpes Simplex can be reactivated at any time which leads to cold sores on the lips.

Treat the cold sore with an antiviral cream as soon as it starts developing (the tingle stage) as this can reduce the duration of the cold sore by up to 50%.

If you are a patient of Cotteswold House Dental Care, and you have a cold sore and are due for an appointment, please contact us before.

Here at Cotteswold House Dental Care we recommend that if possible you wait until your cold sore has gone before attending an appointment.

This is not only because there is a risk of spreading the virus but also because your lips may be sore, dry and may bleed during treatment.

If you need to cancel an appointment due to a cold sore your appointment will be rescheduled to the next convenient time and date for yourself.
