Anxiety is something we all experience in different ways – whether it’s the fear of small spaces, large crowds, or the daily pressures of work and life.
Concerns about visiting the dentist are common, but they shouldn’t be overlooked, as neglecting dental care could have serious consequences for your overall health.
Here at Cotteswold House Dental Care, we’ve been established for over 4 decades, and have built a reputation for being Gloucester’s friendliest practice, welcoming nervous patients of all ages and turning their experience into a positive one.
We offer sedation and have a dedicated treatment coordinator who loves to put our clients at ease.
We even have our very own resident therapy dog (in training!), called Posey, who’s already had a soothing impact on many of our clients.
Many of our patients tell us they actually enjoy coming to the dentist – and that’s how it should be.
Why is Visiting the Dentist Important?
It’s easy to put off going to the dentist, especially if you’ve no pain or cause for concern. However, dentists can detect all sorts of problems that go far beyond cavities and bad breath.
Conditions like diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and even certain cancers can show early symptoms in the mouth.
In fact, with an increasing number of long term health conditions now detectable from the mouth – a routine dental health check could be the key to diagnosing more serious health issues.
Skipping routine check-ups can also lead to untreated problems that worsen over time, potentially causing pain, infections, or costly treatments. Professional cleanings from one of our hygienists will also remove plaque buildup that brushing alone can’t tackle, keeping your teeth and gums in top shape.
Dental Care Has Changed
Modern dentistry has come a long way from the stereotypical cold, clinical setting – with bright overhead lights and the dreaded sound of the drill. From the moment you step inside Cotteswold House Dental Care, you’ll find a welcoming space designed to put you at ease from your very first visit.
Our team prioritise patient comfort, using advanced techniques and technology to ensure a much gentler and stress-free experience.
Our digital iTero scanners can take pain-free, precision impressions of your teeth and jaw – speeding up procedures and enabling accurate prediction of results.
We’ve also recently taken ownership of a compact wireless TRIOS scanner which enhances your dental experience by creating a detailed 3D model of your teeth and gums, helping your dentist identify issues and plan tailored treatments.
Overcoming Fear with Sedation
At Cotteswold House Dental Care, we’re also thrilled to be able to offer sedation services providing a reassuring solution for patients who feel anxious about dental treatment. IV (intravenous) sedation allows you to remain fully conscious and able to communicate while experiencing deep relaxation and a pain-free procedure.
By removing the fear associated with dental visits, sedation helps patients regain control of their oral health. If anxiety has kept you from seeking care, exploring sedation options with your dentist could be the key to a more comfortable experience.
If you’d like to find out more about dental sedation in Gloucester, feel free to ask at reception or get in touch.
Getting Children Comfortable with the Dentist
Cotteswold House Dental Care is a trusted, family-run practice dedicated to providing a warm, welcoming environment for you and for future generations to come. We recommend bringing your children along to the dentist as early as possible – whether to observe and acclimatise themselves to the environment, or for us to take a look at their first milk teeth.
We’re dedicated to making your child’s first dental visit a positive and enjoyable experience. During their appointment, we’ll gently examine their teeth, gums, and tongue and use simple, child friendly language.
We’ll work together to help your family build healthy habits for a lifetime of strong, happy smiles.
We offer convenient evening and weekend appointments, allowing you to fit dental care into your schedule without the stress of rushing or interrupting the school day.
Meet Posey!
Posey the black Labrador puppy is our latest addition to the team, and will be on hand (paw) most days to help reduce anxiety levels at the practice. When she’s not chewing up our invoices she’s working her magic putting our clients at ease. Just recently, she spent an hour curled up on a patient’s lap before they went in for sedation and treatment with Guy, our implant dentist – and they said it made all the difference!
If you’re nervous about taking to the chair you’re not alone – the latest figures show over half of Brits experience some level of fear when visiting the dentist. Our compassionate and skilled team are on hand to help; prioritising your wellbeing and ensuring you receive excellent care in a welcoming environment.
Don’t just take our word for it though – patient Sarah came in recently, and despite initially feeling anxious, she told us she’s looking forward to her next appointment:
What a lovely bunch of professionals! Being a nervous patient having had an accident many years ago which required a lot of dentistry I was amazed that I didn’t feel in the least bit on edge. The dentist was calm and explained everything – no rushing or making me feel foolish. I am actually looking forward to going back – now there’s something I never thought I would ever say!!
– Sarah Hayes
