What is Invisalign and how does it work?

Invisalign: The Clear Alternative to Braces

These days we’re so used to seeing bright, white, perfect teeth that are often too good to be true. A “celebrity smile” usually takes quite a lot of work that can be damaging to teeth. For a kinder approach, Invisalign is a much safer & conservative way to straighten teeth. We can then easily go on to whiten them to give them back their sparkle.

To start the process for Invisalign, we would firstly check if you were suitable to go ahead with treatment with an orthodontic assessment. We look at how your teeth fit together & how crowded they are. It may also be necessary to take some X-Rays at this appointment.
If all seems well & you are suitable for treatment, we will then go on to take some impressions of your teeth to send off to Invisalign. They will take a close look at the models and digitally analyse them to provide you with an image of how your teeth could look after treatment. As you can imagine, this is always pretty exciting to see!

From the models, Invisalign will then make aligner trays just for you that are smooth & comfortable and virtually invisible. They fit over your teeth and you tend to change them every two weeks. Once all your trays are ready we can start the process by checking the fit of the first tray & giving you full instructions.

Each aligner is usually worn for around 2 weeks before it’s changed and over time this gently shifts your teeth into the correct position. We recommend you wear the aligners as much as possible, around 20 hours a day. The more you wear them, the quicker the teeth will move.

Treatment times vary depending on how severe your crowding is and we will try our best to give you an estimate of your treatment time.

Once you have completed your Invisalign treatment, we advise you to wear your final aligner for a number of months at night time to keep them in their final position. It is at this point you can go on to whiten your teeth if you’d like.
