We are very happy to be expanding our treatment options at Cotteswold House in Gloucester to include Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox®) for conditions beyond facial aesthetics. In addition to anti-wrinkle injections and other concerns such as ‘lip flips’ and gummy smile correction, we are now offering Botox for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and teeth grinding/clenching (bruxism).
Both of these are emerging areas in the field of cosmetic procedures, with many of us unaware that Botox can successfully resolve the issues, so it exciting to be able to offer these in our Gloucester practice.
The dramatic benefits of using Botox to treat excessive sweating
Excessive sweating can be difficult to manage with antiperspirants or lifestyle adjustments alone and can be source of great discomfort and distress for those that suffer. Botox under the arms works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that stimulate sweat glands, significantly reducing sweating in the treated areas. Botox as treatment for teeth grinding and clenching
Bruxism, where you grind your teeth or clench your jaw, can cause jaw pain (known as temporomandibular joint pain, or TMJ), headaches, tooth wear and damage over time. This can happen during daily activities or whilst you sleep, which can lead to a delay in identifying what is causing the discomfort. Careful placement of Botox injections into the jaw muscles help to relax them, reducing grinding and clenching without affecting normal chewing or facial expression. This treatment can also help to ease tension in the jaw and protect your teeth from further wear.
