Essentially, a dental implant is used as a replacement for a lost tooth root. Dental implants are usually made from titanium and each implant is precisely and carefully inserted into the jaw where the missing tooth root should be and offers a base for a long-term tooth replacement.
A dental implant can be used to replace one tooth, multiple teeth or a whole set of missing teeth to restore both aesthetics and function. Implants are also an ideal solution for stabilising loose or ill fitting dentures.
The Dental Implant cost will vary considerably depending upon each person's unique clinical situation, only a full dental health assessment will be able to give you an accurate costing, however we'll give you a basic guide here.
Let's look at two ways of replacing missing tooth and the associated cost.
To replace a single missing tooth with a dental bridge would require the tooth either side of the gap to be trimmed down to a stump to accept the supporting elements of the new bridge. This would require 3 new teeth at a cost of approximately £620 each, the total therefore to replace a single missing tooth with a bridge would be from £1860.
Conserving your healthy enamel
This comes with the added disadvantage that possibly healthy teeth either side of the missing one need to be reduced, this could mean that healthy tooth tissue is lost, something which dentists do not wish to do!
Because other teeth have also been touched there is an increased risk of further problems arising, it is always best to leave any teeth alone wherever possible.
Let's look at the cost of a dental implant to replace a single tooth…
To replace a single missing tooth with a simple dental implant would cost from £2100. in the short term this is a little more expensive than using a dental bridge however, in the long term it can work out a more cost effective option as there is less chance of further problems arising with the teeth either side.
