Tooth whitening

Whitening is a process where the tooth discolouration is 'whitened' to a lighter shade. It removes the staining agent through chemical means. It is a safe procedure when carried out under professional supervision but beware of products bought over the Internet as these products have been shown, in many cases to be harmful to patients.

In most cases, we use a product that allows the patient to treat their teeth at home. We provide custom-made application trays that fit closely around the teeth. This allows the whitening agent to be applied carefully to the teeth. With daily use, over 2 to 3 weeks, the teeth gradually lighten. This technique uses chemicals that are gentler, better tolerated and has fewer side effects than the in-surgery chemicals. Although the in-surgery technique provides a quick result, the end result once the teeth have settled following treatment, is the same with both systems.
