Flossing

The most common and well-known form of interdental cleaning is flossing. The purpose of flossing is to clean the surface of the tooth, not the gap between teeth.
Here are four quick steps to effective flossing:

  1. Pull a length of floss, about 45 cm, and grasp between your hands.
  2. Wind 2 cm around the middle fingers and gently guide the floss between your teeth. Don’t apply too much pressure, as you don’t want the floss to ‘snap’ down and cut your gums.
  3. Once the floss has reached the gum line, curve it into a C–shape so that you can feel it against one of the teeth.

Gently scrape the side of the tooth up and down with the floss and repeat the same method on all teeth, remembering to use a fresh piece of floss after every one or two.
